Nicolas Pepe’s two-goal performance against Curacao was not just a match-winning display. It was the exorcism of two decades of group-stage heartbreak. The former Arsenal forward, a player whose career has been defined by unmet expectations, delivered when his country needed him most.
The Goals
The first came in the 7th minute. Yan Diomande, the 22-year-old midfielder who has been one of the revelations of this tournament, split the Curacao defence with a pass that belonged in a coaching manual.
